Many entrepreneurs are trying to attract more customers by focusing on a larger market. And while that may seem logical at first glance, it isn't. Just imagine:
You fish in a popular pond, with as many as 1,000 fish. Due to its popularity, you have to deal with many other anglers, so you are fishing with 100 people. On average, how many fish will everyone catch? That's 10.
You can also specialize in a niche instead. Then you fish in a pond with 'only' 100 fish. The popularity of that place is much smaller, so there are only 10 anglers in total. This means that you also catch an average of 10 fish.
In addition, in the less popular pond, you have 9 competitors instead of 99, and the chance that there is a top seller among those 9 is much smaller than competing against many more others.
So do you want to attract more customers? Choosing a larger market isn't always a good idea. It is precisely by selecting a niche that there is a good chance that you will be more successful with it.
But, how do you then get more customers once in that niche? To attract more customers, you will need to become a better seller. You need some commercial skills.
Of course, that doesn't mean you have to become a smooth car salesman. However, it is important, for example, to understand how to better present your products. And what you can do to showcase your offer, if customers don't come naturally (yet).
For example, try to reach and generate more customers via social media. With LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, for example, you have all kinds of extra channels at your disposal.
Note: you certainly don't have to use all social media. Choose the channel you're comfortable with and where you expect to find the most (potential) customers. By developing one channel down to the last detail, you may be more successful than if you do them all βa little bitβ.
Use the channels to share updates, for example about what's going on in your industry. And share your vision, ideas, and what you're achieving. Prevent it's (just) about the products, to primarily publish valuable content that makes visitors (and ultimately customers) happy.
In this way, you can also use your own website (with blog) and any store to attract attention. Create content that visitors love. So can you explain about a product? Are you interviewing a supplier? Or do you share behind-the-scenes photos and videos? You can reach more customers by creating content that makes them happy. And which, for example, is worth sharing, because that way you generate extra attention.
Once you've reached (and sold to) customers, it's important to stay in touch with them. Prevent them from forgetting you, for example by reaching them again via email.
You can try to attract more (existing) customers with promotions, promotions and product offers, although you can also take a completely different tack. For example, what can they do with the orders they've already placed? Or what tips do you have to get even more out of it? In this way, you create extra value, while remaining top-of-mind with your company and increasing the chance of a repeat purchase.
At the same time, you are naturally wondering how to get new customers. You can do that online with the combination of SEO and SEA:
SEO: organic search results Optimize your website for organic search results. That is, create content for key search terms. Google and other search engines show your website higher in search results. Keep in mind that this takes a long time, it takes a while before you see results.
SEA: paid search results Do you want to be right at the top of the important search terms? Use ads in Google and other search engines. You pay per click, so you can advertise in a very efficient way. Without clicks, it costs you nothing, so you can be sure that you only pay if it pays off.
Finally, you can attract more customers by involving your existing buyers more. Ask them questions about their experience, about the products in the range and what could be better. What would they need? And what information is still missing? Start the conversation and discover how you can get more new customers by listening carefully to what others care about.
